Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the Stilou macOS application and the stilou.ai website (together, the “Service”), operated by Stilou (“we,” “us”). By installing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. License

Subject to these Terms and your active plan, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Stilou on Macs you own or control. You may not resell, redistribute, sublicense, or reverse-engineer the app except where that restriction is prohibited by law.

2. AI modes & providers

Stilou processes text in three ways, and you choose which. Private mode: everything runs on your device; nothing is sent to any server. Included plan: dictation audio and text pass through our relay to the AI providers we use (currently Groq and Anthropic); the relay meters usage and does not store content. Bring your own key: your Mac talks directly to the provider you configured (Anthropic, OpenAI, Groq, or OpenRouter) and their terms govern that processing. Optional connected services (Slack, Google, Read.ai, the meeting-capture bot) run only after you connect or enable them.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Stilou to:

• Break the law, infringe others’ rights, or violate your AI provider’s policies.
• Generate or disguise content intended to deceive, defraud, harass, or harm.
• Misrepresent AI-assisted work where disclosure is legally or contractually required (e.g. certain academic or regulated contexts). Stilou is a writing aid; how you use its output is your responsibility.

4. Your content

You retain all rights to the text you write and transform. We claim no ownership over it, and — as described in our Privacy Policy — we don’t store it or log its content (on the included plan it passes through our relay to reach the AI; in bring-your-own-key mode it never reaches us at all). You’re responsible for the content you create and publish.

5. Plans, billing & refunds

Paid plans (subscription or one-time license) are sold by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record — legally they are the seller, and they handle VAT/sales tax and invoices. Subscriptions renew until cancelled; you can cancel anytime and keep access through the paid period. If you’re not happy, write to us within 14 days of purchase for a refund of your most recent payment — details in our refund policy. Specific terms shown at checkout govern that purchase.

A one-time license covers the current major version and all of its updates. A future major version may be offered as a separate paid upgrade, at our discretion.

6. The app is provided “as is”

We work hard to make Stilou reliable, but the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that AI output will be accurate, appropriate, or error-free — always review what you publish.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Stilou and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

8. Termination

You can stop using the Service and delete the app at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these Terms.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms; we’ll change the date above and, for material changes, note it on the site. Continued use after changes means you accept them.

10. Governing law & contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Questions: hi@stilou.ai.
